Established in 1999, the Institute of Finance (IFIN) coordinates the research and training activities in financial disciplines at the Faculty of Economic Sciences and it offers Bachelor's, Master's and PhD programs.
The importance of the financial area in the national and cantonal economy motivates the mission of the Institute: to develop research in quantitative and institutional themes of financial markets, collaborating with other universities and financial institutions. IFIN is member of the Swiss Finance Institute, which is a research organization with a faculty of more than 50 full time researchers engaged in high level research in the field of banking and finance and related disciplines.
IFIN is committed to pursue excellence in research and teaching according to international standards. IFIN faculty members consistently publish their research in leading scholarly journals. Main areas of research include derivatives pricing and volatility modeling, IPOs and analysts' behavior, asset pricing under non-standard preferences, financial econometrics, liquidity and institutional investors, corporate governance, and real estate.
